Kasey by Jennifer Hanks - Review

Kasey by Jennifer Hanks

Introducing an exciting new series filled with suspense, sacrifice, family, and most of all, the healing power of love. Welcome to the Family…
One. Defining. Moment.
Kasey Moore is happy to be home. Moving to New Hope as a teenager hadn’t been easy, but once she settled in, she couldn’t imagine herself living anywhere else. After four years in college, she’s finally back to living in the town she loves and working her dream job as a teacher at the Elementary School.
For Kasey, her life couldn’t be more perfect.
Until a school assembly, an arrogant man, and a hot encounter in a closet shakes up everything Kasey thinks she wants.
Ten years as a Navy SEAL and Jackson Dimarco is coming home.
Ten years of rigid schedules, almost unreachable expectations, and being a part of something bigger than himself has changed him. Coming home, trying to find himself, the last thing Jax wants to do is talk to an auditorium full of school kids about his time in the military, but when his brother signs him up that’s exactly what he ends up doing.
And he meets someone who challenges him in a way nobody has in a very long time. He meets someone who inspires him to become more than who he’s settled for. He meets someone who makes him feel alive again.
It’s just a shame she doesn’t feel the same way.
But Jackson Dimarco has always loved a challenge and Kasey Moore is the biggest incentive he’s ever had to win.

This is a novella in The Dimarco Series. Can be read as a standalone and at any point in the series. However, if new to the series, I'd recommend reading this novella before the first book in the series, Lucy.

Rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

During the DiMarco series, Jennifer Hanks has given us some snippets of Jax and Kasey but the series begins with their wedding. So what we know of them is through the eyes of the story teller.
Kasey is a prequel, a teaser and a reminiscent novella all in one.
The novella Kasey goes back and tells the story of Jax and Kasey and their love story. Because it's a novella, it's quick. There isn't as much angst and drama like the other books have.
However, for those of us that have read the other books in the series, there are some possible teasers for stories that haven't been told.
My opinion of Jax before reading Kasey is that he's ultra bossy, holds grudges like a five year old, yet he is loyal to his family. Jax became persona non grata because of one grudge he would not let go of (read Gianna if you haven't) for a little while.
I loved the insight to his behavior, his character and struggles.
I also loved that I got to see more of Kasey and who she is as an individual. She is like a little kitten. Sweet until backed into a corner. She would be someone you would want as a friend and in your corner.
Besides the stories told, my other favorite part of the series are the covers. They are absolutely gorgeous and I look forward to seeing the covers for each release to get a hint at what this person will be like.
This is one of my favorite series and it is ive I always try to suggest to people looking for something to read.

Everything comes down to choices.

Ethan’s choices led to his death, which led me to the bridge, a detour on the way to his funeral. I chose to turn around when I heard a car stop. I chose to get into the car with him. I even chose to go on a date with him. I didn’t choose to fall for him, though. And I certainly didn’t choose to be lied to for months.

QUILLEN

I chose to leave my hometown, to forget about everything that happened. Then Ethan died, and I chose to come back for the first time in years, knowing what I would face. They still blame me for what happened back then.

If only they knew the truth.

I chose to pull over on that bridge, and when I saw her face and looked into her eyes, I chose to keep the truth from her. Now she has to choose whether or not she can forgive me for my lies.

Fumbled Hearts by Meagan Brandy - Review

Fumbled Hearts by Meagan Brandy

He’s the persistent playboy who refuses to walk away. I'm the impassive new girl with nothing left to give.
Things are about to get complicated...
After months of refusing, I finally agreed to make the move to Alrick Falls. My family thought it was best - that a new scene would be good for me—and I was sick of having the same conversation.
So here I am, and the plan is simple. Smile through each day and avoid her at all costs.
It's perfect.
Until the cocksure quarterback comes into play.
The last thing I want is his crooked grin and dark brown eyes focused on me.
Yet here he is, cognstantly in my space, pushing me, daring me to care. Telling me what I think and feel, as if he knows.
He doesn't know anything. And  I plan to keep it that way.

Rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

So first, let me just say that Meagan Brandy is the queen of writing tough as nails girls in her stories and writing a story that keeps me on my toes!
Lolli moves to Alrick Falls for her senior year. She has secrets that she keeps from the other characters in the book AND kept from the reader. This girl keeps a wall around her heart like it's nobody's business! She wasn't expecting anyone to break through. Any other details will spoil the story.
There are three moments in this book that kept it from being a three star read for me. The picture/camera event; the Patty Loveless scene; and the swing scene at the end were pivotal moments that gave this book a rawness and heart that it needed.
This book is hot, angsty, emotional and oh so good!

Calm's Storm by CM Genovese - Review

Calm's Storm by CM Genovese

The heart revs harder with gasoline in the veins.

Tesla’s love for dancing runs deeper than her toleration of her father’s MC lifestyle. That’s why she left the Razorblade Tumbleweeds motorcycle club in the first place. The academy seemed like her best bet, but all that fire in her heart and hatred in her soul keeps her dancing in a fit of rage instead of elegant grace. Realizing she can’t escape her past, she heads home to try and face all the heartache she thought she’d left behind.

Link is the new President of his MC. It’s been years since Tesla, the princess to the Razorblade Tumbleweed throne, stomped out of his world on her way to dance for fancy rich folks under bright spotlights. Of course, when things didn’t work out, she headed home. Now, not only does he need to harness all those hidden desires, he also has to help her with her new strip club idea, which means pissing off the locals, the cops, a rival MC, and some sick and twisted reverend from a religious cult.

Rye is about to turn eighteen, and in his religious community of Red Chapel, that means he can start to choose his wives. Life seems good until he finds out the young woman he loves more than anything in the world is betrothed to The Reverend, their sadistic religious leader with an insatiable appetite for power, pain, and pleasure. His only escape seems to be that ruthless band of outlaws he’s always been warned about. If he can only convince Grace to join him and Link to accept him.

Bikers, strippers, and religious zealots collide to create the Calm’s Storm.

Rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2

This was a new-to-me author. I saw a post about this story not being for the faint of heart, so of course I clicked on it!😂
Holy crap - I was not expecting this story to be so addictive! This was SO good!

There's angst, jealousy, betrayal, a rival MC, The Reverend (think the kool-aid kind), a little taboo (or a lot -?) and a fun comraderie filled with sarcasm between the guys within the Razorblade Tumbleweeds when they aren't in beast mode.

The best way I can describe this is if LJ Shen/Meagan Brandy joined forces with Jennifer Hanks, Pippa Grant/Christine Besze and Lisa Gardner/Lisa Jackson. It's a unique book but it kept me engaged and on my toes.

There are alpha males with asshole tendencies, a strong woman that takes charge and guards her heart. When the two main characters finally put pride aside - it's HOT!

There is this randomness and sarcasm that puts light humor in something that would otherwise be a dark book.

There is violence, some of it is just dudes having a pissing contest and some is a lot more heavier and graphic. (I actually put my hand over my face during one part. Granted it was funny right before that, so it took me by surprise!)

Then there is the Red Chapel and The Reverend and all of his creepiness. Yet, when you put it all together, it works.

One of the ways I judge a book is how easy it is to slip into the book world as if I'm sitting there or watching it in movie-form in my head. The way the story was written, even the songs in the story, made it so easy to do this. This was an easy story to read and get lost in.
This story is unique because it's written in three different POVs. In a way, I was getting two stories for the price of one. Each POV was so distinct that it was so easy to switch gears and read as that person.  Each time the story changed POV, it left me with a cliffhanger. I think this is part of the reason why I didn't want to put it down.

I am Rhett Masters.

About Ker Dukey

My books all tend to be darker romance, edge of you seat, angst filled reads. My advice to my readers when starting one of my titles…prepare for the unexpected.

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters growing up.
My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light; some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Huge Deal by Lauren Layne - Review

Huge Deal by Lauren Layne

Even for a top-gun banker, temptation this hot is quite a gamble, in a sexy Wall Street romp from New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne.
An alpha among the wolves of Wall Street, Kennedy Dawson rose to the top of the pack by striking the right contracts at the right times. But there’s one deal that’s been giving him a run for his money—a pact to never again let his assistant, Kate, get under his skin. She may be smart, gorgeous, and sharp as a whip, but she’s definitely off-limits.
Kate Henley isn’t a banker, but she knows a thing or two about risk management—specifically, about managing her attraction to her smolderingly sexy boss. She already fell once, and Kennedy showed no sign of paying a return on her investment. So when Kennedy’s brother starts pursuing her, Kate figures she has the best of both worlds. Jack is charming, rich, very attentive, and the spitting image of his older brother.
It’s also making Kennedy think twice. But to win Kate’s heart, he’ll have to broker the deal of a lifetime…and prove he’s worth the risk.

Rating ðŸŒŸðŸŒŸðŸŒŸðŸŒŸðŸŒŸ

I abso-freaking-lutely love the 21 Wall Street Series and I have been waiting for Kennedy and Kate's story since Hot Asset (book #1)! This book was everything I was hoping for and more!!!
I was NOT prepared for the onslaught of emotions this book put me through! It was sassy, angsty, heartbreaking, sexy and I could NOT GET ENOUGH!
Kennedy is this knight in shining armor that also has his sword shoved up his ass. Kate is a detail-oriented girl that is fiercely loyal to her three bosses. These two have this dance that they have that is hands down one of my favorites that I have read.

The Forgotten Commander - Book Review

The Forgotten Commander by K Webster and Nicole Blanchard

Description:
Our planet, Mortuus, is lost and dying.
A desolate place where a few lone survivors dwell.
My men have lost hope. Our future is bleak.
Longevity is a luxury we can’t afford.
The most we can hope for is survival.
We’ve all but given up when an opportunity presents itself.

Five females—a chance at a future.
Procuring these women went against everything I’d been taught, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
They’re ours now.
Asleep and made ready for breeding.
We won’t die out—lost and forgotten.
It’s our destiny to grow and once again inhabit our lonely planet.

I am Breccan Aloisius, the forgotten commander.
My people will have the future they deserve.
I’ll make sure of it.

My mind is made up…until she wakes and nothing goes as planned.

Rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Sci-Fi is not usually my jam. In fact, I usually avoid it. What is my jam is a book that is written so well that I get caught up in it and it doesn't matter what I'm reading about.
K. Webster and Nicole Blanchard did just that with The Forgotten Commander. They were able to humanize a group of aliens that are fighting for their very existence. Even in the first book, it's apparent that each Mort has their own personal struggles they are dealing with beyond their fight to stay alive.
The Lost Commander introduces you to the Morts and the abduction of five women that are to be used for breeding. This story is about Breccan, the Mort Commander, and Aria, a woman with no recollection of how she was abducted. Both Breccan and Aria have their own personal struggles/demons, both are headstrong, and both want to be accepted and respected by the other.
I loved this story. Once I started reading, I didn't want to stop. I could feel the dread in the beginning and the desolation that Breccan was feeling. When Theron and Sayer return with the goods (the women), I felt the hope among the Morts. But when there are 10 male Morts and only 5 alien (humans) to distribute, what is Brecccan suppose to do? Draw straws? Alien or not, these are guys we are talking about. They still think with the same anatomy as their human counterpart!
Then there is Aria. She unwillingly left a glamorous, but unhappy life and now is in a strange world where she is still being controlled and a prisoner. She is a strong yet stubborn woman that has trust issues and just wants to be respected and loved.
And that epilogue!!! I NEED the next book - like NOW!
If you are a fan of sci-fi romance, this book is for you. If you aren't a fan of sci-fi, or have never read it before, I still think this book is for you. If you are a fan of K. Webster or Nicole Blanchard, then trust their previous work and give this book a shot.

Luca - Book Review

Luca by Nikki Summers
Description:

Chloe Ellis
What you're about to read is my story, my truth. A truth that spans over twenty years of a love for two brothers. A love that was cruel, sometimes harsh and raw but for me always honest and true. An adopted little sister to one, but to the other so much more. Ours was a love that defied all reason. It pushed us to our limits. It was never easy, but nothing worth having ever is; and Luca Marquez is so worth having. He's mine, he always has been and no one will take him away from me.

Luca Marquez
I’ve loved her forever but I couldn’t make her mine, not until the day she walked into my club and needed my protection. She brought light into my darkness and warmed my stone cold heart. Chloe Ellis is my whole world, but she doesn’t know that yet.
Luca’s world stops on the day his precious Chloe is taken from him. Faced with an impossible situation he will stop at nothing to save her. Even if that means slaughtering anyone who gets in his way, or tearing down whole cities to find her. He’ll do anything for her and he’ll never let her go again.
A happy ever after romance with no cheating and no cliffhanger.
Rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This story was a from a first for me author.
The story starts in the past and then continues to flip back and forth between past and present. Chloe and Luca remind me of the kids from Sweet Home Alabama, only British.

This book packed A LOT of drama. It was like a roller coaster. Just when I thought everything was hunky dory, something else happened. I thought it was going to be a bit much, but the author kept me engaged.
There were tender moments, brutal moments, and a lot of hot moments.
Luca is your typical brooding, alpha male that doesn't like to appear weak.
Chloe has been forced to be independent and doesn't want to lose that.
There were a few things that I wish were different. One - where is this taking place? I'm assuming somewhere in the UK, but not 100% sure. Two - I wish there was a flashback of what made Chloe a harder person. It was shared in the story but I felt like this was an important piece to the story's puzzle.
There were a lot a grammar issues throughout the entire story - run-on sentences, no commas, etc. - but the plot was strong enough that this could be overlooked.
Then there was the font change when it was Luca's story. It was significantly smaller than what was used for Chloe's story.  This could be an Amazon issue, but I felt like I had to squint through his chapters.
Overall, I REALLY enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the next!

But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Rating🌟🌟🌟🌟
It's been a few days since I finished this book and I still can't quit thinking about that ending!

This book has given me trust issues!!!
How do I even begin to describe this book? It's an absolute mindf*ck! That's it! That is all that can be said because to go into detail would spoil the entire book for anyone that hasn't read it.
This book is a psychological romantic thriller. One minute I'm cruising through the book all good and then BAM!
I will say that Lowen is either a) braver or b) stupider than me. After incident 1, MAYBE incident 2, I would have been GONE!!! Um, hello! Weren't you told they were Chronics???
