“So, your feelings match mine, Baby Girl?” I ask as I watch her face intently.
She bites her lower lip and glances down at our joined hands. A moment passes in silence as she contemplates my question.
I wait patiently.
Her eyes—made even more platinum by the colors of the restaurant’s decor—meet mine.
“Tell me what you mean, Lachlan. I want to be very clear,” she responds.
I take a deep breath and bare my innermost self to her.
“Until the summer of you sixteenth birthday, I only ever saw you as my little cousin, the baby girl of the Steele clan. My best friend’s younger sister. You were a toddler, a girl, a teenager younger than me. Someone to tease, care for, and love, as I did with my own sister. Forbidden for more than one reason,” I pause to formulate my next words.
Haley squeezes my hand to encourage me.
I smile at her and go on.
“But something changed between us that summer. I no longer viewed you as the kid sister of my best friend who tagged along wherever we went, stumbling, then walking tall. I tried to deny the difference, chastising myself for allowing my thoughts to stray beyond the cousin realm.”
Another deep breath.
“I thought you felt the same, especially when you were so hurt by me kissing your friend at the beach.”
Haley scoffs and pulls her hand back. I hold tight and cock my eyebrow. Instantly, she submits.

I shift in my seat to adjust my reawakened cock before I continue.

I shrug.

Tears glitter in her gray orbs.
I squeeze her hand.
“In Positano, Lucie and Shelley drew out my confession and told me they think you feel the same way. With that in mind and their blessing, I knew the time was right to speak with you about us,” I say, then brush my thumb against her wrist. “Do you understand, Baby Girl?”
Her lips part on a gasp, and her tongue darts out to lick the plump lower one. Pupils dilate as her cheeks tint a rosy hue.
I clamp down on my bottom lip to stifle a groan.
